  • So Many Nights

    price: $25.00

SO MANY NIGHTS was recorded in Melbourne (at Sing Sing Studios) and the overdubs were done in Malibu, while the band was in town to perform on Jay Leno. The house and studio where we lived in Malibu overlooked the Pacific Ocean. Worth over 10 million USA $'s, it was owned by a guy who made his money Producing Karaoke tunes. This record is the result of music written and developed on the road, and is perhaps a tribute to the many many nights we have played in hundreds of cities throughout the world. Produced by John Porter (Ryan Adams, The Smiths, Los Lonely Boys), this is the first time The Cat Empire has recorded an album with a Producer. John Porter, who was a guitarist for bands such as Roxy Music and Eric Claptons band, performs Guitar on Panama, and Slide Guitar on No Longer There. The experience of recording and staying in Malibu was at the extreme end of the spectrum from recording the previous record in Cuba. The result is a more pristine production, and the next chapter in the story of The Cat Empire

  • Cities- The Cat Empire Project - Limited Release

    price: $25.00

This project is somewhere in between a tribute to our own city and an experiment in sounds that we've found abroad. The approach to this record was far less precious than it was for our debut and two shoes. It was a kind of surprise record we almost didn't expect to make. We wrote the material very quickly, and had an excellent and robust few weeks recording it. The record is some ways serious and in some ways stupendous. There are ethnics, locals, sad songs, adventure songs, musical chorus', screamers, and a collection of soul references. There are strings sections, Sitars, Tablas, horn sections, short punchy arrangements as well as some excellent solos. It is the kind of recording people might get to hear a different side of The Cat Empire, but it's still soulful, strange, humorous, whimsical, sometimes sad, sometimes delirious, mis-placed and undoubtedly Catempiracle as well.

  • Two Shoes

    price: $25.00

TWO SHOES - Recorded in Havana Cuba, at the famous Estudio Egrem where legends such as The Buena Vista Social Club, Irakere, Ruben Gonzalez and many others have found themselves recording. This album was made the old school way, playing live in a room over the course of 28 days in Nov/Dec 2004. Produced by Jerry Boys, Felix Riebl and The Cat Empire, it is an album we are proud of, one which survived food poisoning, blackouts, freighting hundreds of kilos of equipment across the world, and many other stories which will all be revealed in time. We are proud of it, and hope you will enjoy...

  • The Cat Empire Album - Self Titled

    price: $25.00

The Cat Empire emerged as a live band. We all grew up playing around Melbourne and we are always most comfortable on a stage. We would always finish gigs and people would say that the energy of the live show was what they wanted to take home on a CD. Alongside this, we wanted to produce a recording that would get our music on radio and other streams that could access a larger audience. So the challenge was to create something that was energetic, vibrant, and alive, but also subtle and decisive. This concept passed by a few different models, but in the end we aimed for simplicity. We recorded all the tracks live, then spent time re-doing vocal takes, and some other additions. We had Andy Baldwin on our team, who was the perfect co-producer and engineer. This album took us 8 months to make, with different parts of it being added in Byron over summer, in Melbourne at studios, at Andy's house and anywhere else we found ourselves. We are pretty happy with the final product. Make up your own minds by getting your hands on a copy.
